Seeing or Being Negative Thoughts

Let me explain...
We all have thoughts throughout the day...
Many of these thoughts run totally on autopilot and don't affect us.
They just help us to complete our tasks and do our usual chores.
Some thoughts, though, do affect us.
They create negative emotion in us.
If you have those thoughts, and you get caught up in them catastrophizing and so on, you're "being" the thought.
You are the thought and you'll see the world from that thought.
On the other hand...
If you have those thoughts...
And you notice you're having negative thoughts...
And even say to yourself...
"I notice I'm thinking that___________"...
You create a separation between you and the thought and it lessens the impact of it.
You're no longer being the thought...you're seeing the thought.
You're witnessing your thinking rather than just experiencing it.
Developing the awareness and ability to do this is a huge step forward in anyone's personal and spiritual development.
So do step into the witness position and use that little sentence next time you experience negative emotion...
"I notice I'm thinking that (whatever you're thinking)".
Take that witness position of seeing your thoughts rather than just being and experiencing them.
And realise that doing that will create a little space that lessens the impact of whatever you are thinking at the time.

MEDITATION

Meditation, has been shown to improve mental health, specifically in the area of stress.
When faced with a difficult or stressful moment, our bodies create cortisol, the steroid hormone responsible for regulating stress and our natural fight-or-flight response, among many other functions.
Chronic stress can cause sustained and elevated levels of cortisol, which can lead to other negative effects on your health, including cardiovascular and immune systems and gut health.
Meditation, which focuses on calming the mind and regulating emotion, can help to reduce chronic stress in the body.

Meditation has also been found to be an effective behavioral treatment for various conditions associated with a weakened immune system.
Consistent Meditation has been shown to reduce the body’s stress response, resulting in less inflammation and decreased risk of conditions such as chronic pain, fatigue and heart disease.

Meditation Improves Sleep, research suggests Meditation can improve a person’s ability to sleep and quality of sleep. When most of us are struggling to sleep, it’s because our minds are ruminating over the day, or worrying about tomorrow, it's effects have been shown to help with insomnia, as well as day-time sleep related issues, such as fatigue.

These are just a few of the many benefits to Meditating regularly.

‘Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already.’
